Foundry BigIron MG8 router no longer just for the rich.

Well, as we all know the Foundry MG8 is a big league switch/router, normally reserved for operations with huge budgets and lots of traffic. This is no longer the case since it is, as of this writing, available used! That’s right, used. If you haven’t seen the light and are stuck on buying new only, you may navigate away from this page now. But for those of you who realize a used router makes all kinds of economic and practical sense, and is for all intents as good as a new router, read on…..

We just shipped two well-optioned used MG8’s to our customer (a service provider) in the Netherlands, who is very pleased with their performance and features. A state-of-the-art switch fabric, high performance backplane and supervisor engine, 10GbE port density, and redundancy were all critical decisions for this customer. They also needed to keep within a budget. Mission accomplished.

The items we have available at this time are:

BIMG8-AC
BIMG8-MR
BIMG8-SFM
BIMG8-10GX4-V6-A
BIMG8-1GX20-SFP-V6
BIMG8-1GX40-SFP-V6

Feel free to contact me if you would like to consider deploying the Foundry MG8, and we can option and price one for you. Below is a fluffy blurb from Foundry on the MG8.

  • sFlow Layer 2-4 traffic monitoring for Ethernet, IPv4 and IPv6
  • Each of the interface slots in the BigIron MG8 supports 40-Gbps of full duplex, non-blocking traffic forwarding. This allows for wire speed switching of 4 10-GbE or 40 1-GbE ports across the switching fabric, as well as locally on the module.
  • The MG8 incorporates the industry’s highest performance, non-blocking, distributed switching architecture with a parallel cross-point switch fabric providing up to 640-Gigabits per second of switching throughput, and 480 million packets per second switching performance.
