At Townsend Networks, we often hear customers ask about interoperability between the NI-MLX and the more robust NI-XMR routers. While both units run the Netiron code, look identical, and function virtually the same, sadly one cannot utilize MLX modules in the XMR and visa versa, at least not without some serious limitations.
See, the XMR modules possess more DRAM and CAM than sister MLX modules; they need to in order to support 1M routes versus 512K for the MLX router. As such if you put an MLX module into the XMR, it effectively dumbs the entire router down to an MLX. Same for putting an XMR module into the MLX, that module is reduced to an MLX card.
Good news regarding the MLXe, however. It will support both the MLX and XMR modules, but this assumes that all modules are like-kind in a given chassis – no mixing XMR/MLX blades. Confused yet?

For a quote on any refurbished NI-MLX or NI-XMR routers, please call 415-230-7833 or send us an email at sales@townsendnetworks.com

This new family of 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches garnered the manufacturer a “Most Important Enterprise IT Product for 2010” award.

From our customer: If you are looking for a 10GB switch that can scale out to 16 ports or higher and all you need it for is L2, then the new VDX 6720-24 or 6720-60 can work for you. It is capable of doing either 1 or 10GB, transmitting at line rates. These switches are very easy to expand should the need arise.

While they may not “stack” like the FCX, as for sheer port count and scalability (up to 600 1 or 10GB ports), it can not be beat.
