Used Brocade 5100 SAN Switch

Used Brocade 5100 SAN SwitchThe Brocade 5100 Switch is designed for rapidly growing storage environments—combining 1, 2, 4, and 8 Gbps Fibre Channel technology in configurations of 24, 32, or 40 ports in an efficient 1U form factor. Designed for a broad range of SAN architectures, the Brocade 5100 consumes less than 2.5 watts of power per port for exceptional power and cooling efficiency. It also features consolidated power and fan assemblies to improve environmental performance and reduce overall ownership costs.

Industry-Leading Performance and Flexibility

To support mission-critical environments, the Brocade 5100 provides best-in-class performance for a midrange SAN switch. It features a non-blocking architecture with as many as 40 ports concurrently active at 8 Gbps (full duplex) with no over-subscription—providing an overall bandwidth of 320 Gbps. In addition, enhanced Brocade ISL Trunking enables a single logical link at up to 64 Gbps of balanced data throughput.

To maximize the value of virtual server deployments, the Brocade 5100 offers Top Talkers (part of Advanced Performance Monitoring) and Adaptive Networking, a suite of tools including Ingress Rate Limiting, Traffic Isolation, and Quality of Service (QoS). These advanced capabilities, along with proactive Bottleneck Detection, help optimize fabric behavior and ensure ample bandwidth for mission-critical applications. For additional flexibility and value, the Brocade 5100 also provides Integrated Routing capabilities to connect switches in different fabrics.

The Brocade 5100 includes a Virtual Fabrics feature that enables the partitioning of a physical SAN into logical fabrics. This provides fabric isolation by application, business group, customer, or traffic type without sacrificing performance, scalability, security, or reliability.

For consolidating server connectivity using Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and Converged Enhanced Ethernet (CEE), the Brocade 5100 is compatible with Brocade CEE/FCoE solutions.

High Availability

The Brocade 5100 is a reliable foundation for disaster recovery and business continuance with enterprise-class availability features such as hot-swappable, redundant, and integrated fan and power supply assemblies. Moreover, hot code load and activation help maximize application uptime with faster system upgrades and maintenance.

To support SAN extension, the Brocade 5100 enables servers and storage devices to reside up to 3400 kilometers apart – helping organizations implement the most sophisticated business continuance and disaster recovery initiatives.

Fast and Easy Scalability

The Brocade 5100 is easy to deploy, manage, and integrate into both new and existing IT environments. With capabilities such as Ports On Demand scalability from 24 to 32 or 40 ports, the Brocade 5100 enables organizations to grow their storage networks in a non-disruptive manner. In addition, organizations can initially deploy 4 Gbps SFPs and upgrade to 8 Gbps SFP+ when desired.

Simplified Deployment and Management

Brocade switches utilize cost-effective management solutions to optimize storage network resources, improve efficiency, and reduce cost of ownership. The EZSwitchSetup wizard is designed to simplify deployment. For Multi-switch environments, Brocade DCFM Professional streamlines management and provides fabric-wide monitoring capabilities.

The Brocade 5100 can be deployed as a full-fabric switch or as a Brocade Access Gateway, which provides server connectivity into any SAN (the default mode setting is a switch). Access Gateway mode utilizes N_Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) switch standards to present servers as logical devices directly to the core of SAN fabrics. Attaching through NPIV-enabled switches and directors, the Brocade 5100 in Access Gateway mode can connect to Brocade, McDATA, or other SAN fabrics.

Brocade Optical Transceiver Modules

Brocade 8 Gbps switches require Brocade optical transceiver modules, which are available in multiple models to satisfy a wide range of speed and distance requirements. These Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) modules are optimized for Brocade 8 Gbps products to maximize performance, reduce power consumption, and help ensure the highest availability of mission-critical applications.

Industry Standards Compliance

Brocade products conform to industry standards in a manner consistent with accepted engineering practices and procedures.
