Is the Juniper EX4600 end of life?

Yes. Juniper's notice TSB109286, announced 29 June 2026, covers the EX4600-40F-AFI, -AFO, -DC-AFI and -DC-AFO and the EX4600-EM-8F module. Juniper lists the last order date as 29 December 2026, end of engineering as 29 December 2029, the last software version as Junos 21.4 and end of support as 29 December 2031.

What does the EX4600-EM-8F add?

Eight SFP+ ports that take 10GbE SFP+ or 1GbE SFP transceivers, in one of the EX4600's two expansion bays. The other module Juniper offers is the QFX-EM-4Q with four 40GbE QSFP+ ports, and the switch is configured for that module by default. Modules can be hot-inserted, but swapping one type for the other briefly takes the interfaces down. Juniper rates a fully expanded EX4600 at up to 72 10GbE ports.

What is the difference between AFO and AFI on an EX4600?

Airflow direction. Air Out (AFO) moves air from the port side to the power supply and fan side; Air In (AFI) moves it the other way. Juniper says not to mix AC and DC power supplies, or AFI and AFO power supplies and fan modules, in the same chassis.

Can the EX4600 be stacked with the EX4300?

Yes. Up to 10 switches form an EX4600 Virtual Chassis in a ring. In a mixed Virtual Chassis of EX4600 and EX4300 switches, the EX4600 can be primary, backup or line card while the EX4300 must be a line card; Juniper fully supports the EX4600 as primary from Junos 14.1X53-D25.

What condition and warranty come with a Juniper EX4600 switch from Townsend?

Each listing prints its own condition. Units sold as new, refurbished or used are bench tested before they are listed: every port and module slot is checked and the previous owner's configuration is erased. They are covered by the Townsend warranty from the date of delivery; if the hardware fails in normal use we repair it or replace it with a tested unit, and the length and terms are on our warranty page. Unused hardware can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Juniper software licences and support contracts are not part of our warranty.
