The Juniper EX4600-40F-DC-AFI is a switch from the Juniper EX4600 family with 24 ports of 1/10GbE SFP+, 4 ports of 40GbE QSFP+, back-to-front airflow and DC power. It runs Junos OS. Blue, Air In parts only: QFX5100-FAN-AFI fan modules with the AIR IN label, and DC power supplies of the same airflow. Juniper says not to mix modules of different airflow, that blue and orange modules may not be mixed, and that AC and DC supplies may not share the chassis. It places the switch with its AIR IN labels next to the cold aisle.
HOW IT DIFFERS
EX4600-40F-DC-AFI is the DC powered EX4600 with Air In (FRU-to-port) airflow: 24 SFP+ and 4 QSFP+ ports and 2 expansion module slots, in Juniper's hardware guide. Its fan modules are QFX5100-FAN-AFI, labeled AIR IN and colored blue, and its DC power supply is a 650 W unit with dual feeds for power resiliency, the same supply Juniper uses in its QFX5100 switches. Its sister EX4600-40F-DC-AFO has the same ports with Air Out (port-to-FRU) airflow and orange fan modules; EX4600-40F-AFI is the AC version of this airflow.

What is the difference between AFO and AFI on an EX4600?
Airflow direction. Air Out (AFO) moves air from the port side to the power supply and fan side; Air In (AFI) moves it the other way. Juniper says not to mix AC and DC power supplies, or AFI and AFO power supplies and fan modules, in the same chassis.
Can the EX4600 be stacked with the EX4300?
Yes. Up to 10 switches form an EX4600 Virtual Chassis in a ring. In a mixed Virtual Chassis of EX4600 and EX4300 switches, the EX4600 can be primary, backup or line card while the EX4300 must be a line card; Juniper fully supports the EX4600 as primary from Junos 14.1X53-D25.
What condition and warranty come with a Juniper EX4600 switch from Townsend?
Each listing prints its own condition. Units sold as new, refurbished or used are bench tested before they are listed: every port and module slot is checked and the previous owner's configuration is erased. They are covered by the Townsend warranty from the date of delivery; if the hardware fails in normal use we repair it or replace it with a tested unit, and the length and terms are on our warranty page. Unused hardware can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Juniper software licences and support contracts are not part of our warranty.
