WS-SVC-WISM2-K-K9 is the WiSM2 controller sold with the 1000 access point support licence, the top of its family. Cisco's ordering table lists the same module with 100, 300 and 500 access point licences as WS-SVC-WISM2-1-K9, WS-SVC-WISM2-3-K9 and WS-SVC-WISM2-5-K9, and a high availability module, WS-SVC-WISM2-HA-K9. Capacity can also be raised later with 100 AP and 200 AP adder licences, up to 1000 access points.

Which Cisco chassis and software does the WS-SVC-WISM2-K-K9 need? It is the Wireless Services Module 2 controller for the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switches. Cisco notes that the supervisor must run software 12.2(33)SXJ2 or 15.0(1)SY1 or later to support the features in its data sheet. The module has a service port and a redundancy port at 1000 Mbps, a console port with an RS232 DB-9 or RJ-45 connector and a mini-USB port. How many access points does the WS-SVC-WISM2-K-K9 support, and can more be added? The K-K9 is the WiSM2 sold with the 1000 access point support licence. Cisco's family also came with 100, 300 and 500 access point licences, and says the software licensing lets you add access points up to 1000 as needs grow, with 100 AP and 200 AP adder licences ordered either as e-Delivery product authorization keys or as paper keys. Is the WS-SVC-WISM2-K-K9 still supported by Cisco? No. Cisco's retirement notice says the Cisco Wireless Services Module 2 (WiSM2) has been retired and is no longer supported, with an end-of-sale date of 2017-04-10 and an end-of-support date of 2022-04-30.
