Which supervisor do the WS-X6848-SFP-2T and WS-X6816-10G-2T need?

Cisco lists the 6800-series modules with DFC4 as compatible with Supervisor Engine 2T and 2TXL, such as the VS-S2T-10G-XL. They fit any slot in a Catalyst 6503-E, 6504-E, 6506-E, 6509-E or 6509-V-E. The WS-F6700-DFC3BXL is the opposite case: Cisco supports it only with the Supervisor Engine 720, on CEF720 line cards.

What is the difference between the WS-SUP720-3BXL and the VS-S2T-10G-XL?

They are two supervisor generations. The WS-SUP720-3BXL carries the MSFC3 and PFC3BXL and has two Gigabit uplinks, one SFP and one that takes an SFP or a 10/100/1000 RJ-45 connection. The VS-S2T-10G-XL is the Supervisor Engine 2T with MSFC5 and PFC4XL, two 10GbE and three 1GbE uplinks, and it is the supervisor the 6800-series DFC4 modules need. Cisco named the VS-S2T-10G-XL as a replacement for the Sup720-3BXL.

Is the Catalyst 6500 end of life?

Yes. Cisco's notice for the Catalyst 6506-E, 6509-E, 6509-V-E, 6513-E, VS-S2T-10G and VS-S2T-10G-XL set end of sale on 30 October 2020 and the last date of support on 31 October 2025, so Cisco support for the chassis and the Supervisor 2T has ended. The Supervisor 720-3B and 3BXL left sale on 30 January 2013, with Cisco support ended on 31 January 2018.

Does the WS-C6509-E come with power supplies or a fan tray?

Cisco sold the WS-C6509-E chassis without power supplies or a fan tray. What ships with a listing is stated in its What's included section; supervisors, line cards and power supplies ship as the part alone. Power supplies on this page are the WS-CAC-4000W-US and WS-CAC-1300W.

What condition and warranty come with a Cisco Catalyst 6500 part from Townsend?

Each listing prints its own condition. Units sold as new, refurbished or used are bench tested before they are listed: every port and module slot is checked and the previous owner's configuration is erased. They are covered by the Townsend warranty from the date of delivery; if the hardware fails in normal use we repair it or replace it with a tested unit, and the length and terms are on our warranty page. Unused hardware can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Cisco software licences and support contracts are not part of our warranty.
