Questions and answers

What is the difference between the WS-C2960X-48FPS-L and the WS-C2960X-48FPD-L?
Only the uplinks. Both have 48 Gigabit copper ports with PoE+, a 740W PoE budget and the LAN Base feature set. The 48FPS-L has four 1G SFP uplinks; the 48FPD-L has two 10G SFP+ uplinks. The 24-port pair splits the same way: the WS-C2960X-24PS-L has four 1G SFP uplinks and 370W of PoE+, the WS-C2960X-24TD-L has two 10G SFP+ uplinks and no PoE.
Can Catalyst 2960-X switches be stacked?
Yes, with the optional FlexStack-Plus module, which Cisco says stacks up to eight Catalyst 2960-X or 2960-XR switches. Cisco's data sheet marks the LAN Base 2960-X models, including the four on this page, as FlexStack-Plus capable; the LAN Lite 2960-X models are not. The stacking module is a separate part and is not included with a switch unless the listing says so.
What do LAN Base and LAN Lite mean, and can they be upgraded?
They are the Cisco IOS feature sets the switch was built with: the -L part numbers here run LAN Base and the -LL part numbers run LAN Lite. Cisco's 2960-X data sheet says each model is tied to its feature level: LAN Lite cannot be upgraded to LAN Base, and LAN Base cannot be upgraded to IP Lite. Buy the part number that already carries the features you need.
Are the Catalyst 2960-X, 2960-L and 2960 end of life?
Yes. Cisco's 2960-X notice set end of sale on 31 October 2022 and the last date of support on 31 October 2027, with the Catalyst 9200L named as the replacement. The 2960-L models reached end of sale on 31 October 2021 with support ending 31 October 2026, and the WS-C2960-48PST-L left sale on 31 October 2014, with Cisco support ended on 31 October 2019.
Does the Catalyst 2960-X have a redundant power supply?
Not inside the switch. Cisco's data sheet says the 2960-X comes with one fixed power supply and supports an external Cisco Redundant Power System (RPS 2300) for redundancy. The related 2960-XR has a field-replaceable power supply instead.
What condition and warranty come with a Cisco Catalyst 2960 switch from Townsend?
Each listing prints its own condition. Units sold as new, refurbished or used are bench tested before they are listed: every port and module slot is checked and the previous owner's configuration is erased. They are covered by the Townsend warranty from the date of delivery; if the hardware fails in normal use we repair it or replace it with a tested unit, and the length and terms are on our warranty page. Unused hardware can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Cisco software licences and support contracts are not part of our warranty.
