HOW IT DIFFERS
EX4300-48T-DC is the DC powered 48 port EX4300 with front-to-back (AFO) airflow: its supply is a 550 W DC unit rather than the 350 W AC supply of its sister EX4300-48T, and the data sheet rates its noise at 39.7 against 37.8. Its fan modules and supply carry the AIR OUT label. The back-to-front AC sister is EX4300-48T-AFI.

Questions about the Juniper EX4300 family

What ports does the EX4300-48T-DC have?
The EX4300-48T-DC has 48 × 1GbE, with uplinks of 4x 40GbE QSFP+ and 52 data ports in all.
Which way does the air flow on the EX4300-48T-DC?
The airflow of the EX4300-48T-DC is front-to-back.
What power does the EX4300-48T-DC use?
The EX4300-48T-DC uses DC.
What are the size and weight of the EX4300-48T-DC?
The EX4300-48T-DC weighs 13 lb (5.9 kg) with no power supply and no fan module installed.
How much rack space does the EX4300-48T-DC take?
The EX4300-48T-DC takes single rack unit of rack space.
What software does the EX4300-48T-DC run?
The EX4300-48T-DC runs Junos OS.
Is the Juniper EX4300 end of life?
Juniper's EX Series hardware milestones page shows three notices for the models on this page. The 24- and 48-port T and P models, including the AFI, DC and TAA versions: end of life announced 24 June 2022, last order 31 March 2024, end of support 31 March 2029. The EX4300-32F and EX4300-32F-DC (TSB105633): last order 31 March 2026, end of support 31 March 2029. The EX4300-48MP (TSB109284, announced 29 June 2026): last order 29 December 2026, end of support 29 December 2031.
What do AFI and AFO mean on an EX4300?
Airflow direction. Juniper labels fans and power supplies AIR IN (AFI) for back-to-front airflow and AIR OUT (AFO) for front-to-back airflow. The EX4300-48T-AFI ships with AFI fan modules and power supply; the standard EX4300-48T ships AFO. Match the airflow to the hot and cold aisles of the rack it goes into.
Can EX4300 switches be stacked, and with what?
Up to 10 EX4300 switches form a Virtual Chassis. The built-in QSFP+ ports are set up as Virtual Chassis ports by default and can be reconfigured as network ports. An EX4300 can also be a line card member of a mixed Virtual Chassis with EX4600 switches, where the EX4600 takes the primary and backup roles.
Which uplink modules fit the EX4300?
The 24- and 48-port T and P models take the 4-port 10GbE SFP+ module EX-UM-4X4SFP. The EX4300-32F takes the 2-port 40GbE QSFP+ module EX-UM-2QSFP or the 8-port 10GbE SFP+ module EX-UM-8X8SFP. The EX4300-48MP takes the EX-UM-2QSFP-MR (two 40GbE or 100GbE ports) or the EX-UM-4SFPP-MR (four 1GbE or 10GbE ports). A switch listing does not include an uplink module unless it says so.
What condition and warranty come with a Juniper EX4300 switch from Townsend?
Each listing prints its own condition. Units sold as new, refurbished or used are bench tested before they are listed: every port and module slot is checked and the previous owner's configuration is erased. They are covered by the Townsend warranty from the date of delivery; if the hardware fails in normal use we repair it or replace it with a tested unit, and the length and terms are on our warranty page. Unused hardware can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Juniper software licences and support contracts are not part of our warranty.

How the EX4300-48T-DC differs from the EX4300-48T

The EX4300-48T-DC is the DC-powered version of the 48-port copper EX4300. Juniper's EX4300 hardware guide lists it with a 550 W DC power supply by default, labelled AIR OUT (AFO) for front-to-back airflow, where the EX4300-48T-DC-AFI carries the AIR IN (AFI) label for back-to-front airflow. The supply is the JPSU-550-DC-AFO-A, or the JPSU-550-DC-AFI-A for the AFI version: a hot-insertable, hot-removable unit of 2.43 lb (1.1 kg) rated at 14.2 A, with an operating range of -40.8 through -60 VDC. The switch needs at least -43.5 VDC, give or take 0.5 VDC, to power on, and up to two supplies fit, in slots PSU 0 and PSU 1.

The guide says the DC power supply does not support Power over Ethernet, and that AC and DC power supplies must never be mixed in one chassis, nor supplies and fan modules with different airflow labels. The datasheet's other power supplies for the family are AC: the 350 W JPSU-350-AC-AFO and JPSU-350-AC-AFI and the 715 W JPSU-715-AC-AFO. The guide lists the optional 4-port 10-Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ uplink module for this model as the EX-UM-4X4SFP.
