Questions about the Juniper MX Line Cards family
- Are the Juniper MPC-3D-16XGE, MPC3E, MPC4E and MIC-3D-20GE line cards end of life?
- Juniper ended the sale of the Juniper MPC-3D-16XGE, MPC3E, MPC4E and MIC-3D-20GE line cards on June 30, 2021. Its support ended on June 30, 2026. The dates are from the maker notice linked in the end of sale table on this page. The hardware keeps working after them; what ends is the maker's side: new software fixes, support cases and replacement under a maker contract.
How it differs from the MPC-3D-16XGE-SFPP-R-B
Juniper's MX Series interface module reference lists two model numbers for this card, MPC-3D-16XGE-SFPP and MPC-3D-16XGE-SFPP-R-B, under one description: a fixed configuration MPC with sixteen 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports, a power requirement of 9.17 A at 48 V (440 W) and a weight of 18.35 lb (8.3 kg). The reference gives two names in the CLI, MPC 3D 16x10GE and MPC 3D 16x10GE EM, and no other difference between the two model numbers.
The hardware the reference lists for the card: four fully programmable Junos Trio chipsets, one per set of four ports, for scaling of bandwidth, subscribers and services, and ports that run in LAN-PHY mode at 10.3125 Gbps. The card does not support WAN-PHY mode. Juniper also notes that the SFPP-10G-CT50-ZR optic is not NEBS compliant in this card: if the ambient air temperature exceeds 55 C (131 F), Junos OS disables that optic's transmitter.
