The Juniper QFX5100-48T-AFI is a switch from the Juniper QFX5100 family with 48 ports of 1/10GbE RJ45, 6 ports of 40GbE QSFP+, back-to-front airflow and AC power. It is a Layer 3 managed platform that runs Junos OS. This unit is refurbished (used): inspected, powered on and functionally tested by Townsend Networks technicians before listing. One switch per order, with a rack-mount kit and the power cable(s) to match.

Other versions

Compatible with
Air In parts: the AC power supply JPSU-650W-AC-AFI, which has a blue handle, and the fan module QFX5100-FAN-AFI, labeled AIR IN and colored Juniper Azure Blue. Do not mix AC and DC supplies in the same chassis, and airflow in and airflow out fans and power supplies cannot be mixed either. Converting an AIR IN switch to AIR OUT means replacing all the fans and power supplies at one time.
HOW IT DIFFERS
QFX5100-48T-AFI is the AC powered, back-to-front airflow 48T: Juniper's hardware guide lists it as 48 10GBASE-T and 6 QSFP+ with AC supplies, Air In (FRUs to ports) and 3 management ports, on the 110-240 V single phase AC input. Juniper lists JPSU-650W-AC-AFI as its AC 650W PSU. Its sister QFX5100-48T-DC-AFI keeps the airflow on DC supplies, JPSU-650W-DC-AFI, taking -36 to -72 V DC. The datasheet gives the 48T 335 W of power consumption, 24.8 lb and a depth of 21.47 in, against 21.8 lb and 20.48 in for the 48S.

Questions about the Juniper QFX5100 family

Is the Juniper QFX5100 end of life?
Yes. Juniper's QFX Series hardware milestones page gives two sets of dates for the models on this page. QFX5100-48S, 48T and 24Q models: end of life announced 30 April 2021, last order 1 July 2022, end of support 1 July 2027. QFX5100-96S models: announced 25 May 2022, last order 31 December 2022, end of support 31 December 2027.
What is the difference between AFO and AFI on a QFX5100?
Airflow direction. Air Out (AFO) draws air in at the port side and exhausts it past the power supplies and fans; Air In (AFI) runs the other way, from the power supply and fan side to the ports. Juniper notes that older switches called these front-to-back and back-to-front. Pick the direction that matches your hot and cold aisles; mixing directions in one chassis is not supported.
What is the difference between the QFX5100-48S and the QFX5100-48T?
The 48S has 48 SFP+ ports for 10GbE optics or direct attach cables. The 48T has 48 10GBASE-T copper RJ-45 ports. Both have six 40GbE QSFP+ ports.
Can QFX5100 switches be stacked or built into a fabric?
Yes. Up to ten QFX5100 switches form a QFX Virtual Chassis managed as one device. A Virtual Chassis Fabric scales to 20 devices in a spine and leaf design, with up to four QFX5100 spines, and EX4300 switches can join as leaf devices.
What condition and warranty come with a Juniper QFX5100 switch from Townsend?
Each listing prints its own condition. Units sold as new, refurbished or used are bench tested before they are listed: every port and module slot is checked and the previous owner's configuration is erased. They are covered by the Townsend warranty from the date of delivery; if the hardware fails in normal use we repair it or replace it with a tested unit, and the length and terms are on our warranty page. Unused hardware can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Juniper software licences and support contracts are not part of our warranty.
