The routing engine is the control plane of an MX240, MX480 or MX960, and it has its own end-of-life dates, separate from the chassis it sits in. Juniper ended the sale of the RE-S-1800X4 routing engines on June 30, 2021. End of support was June 30, 2026.
That makes the RE-S-1800X4 a part that is now run on spares. Our listings carry it as a quad-core 1.8 GHz engine in 16 GB and 32 GB memory versions, alongside the six-core RE-S-X6 in 64 GB and 128 GB versions.

What the dates mean
Juniper publishes its end-of-life dates in a technical bulletin. The last order date is the end of sale. End of engineering is the day Juniper stops developing software fixes for the platform. End of support is the last day Juniper's support center takes a case and the last day a support contract covers the hardware.
These chassis can run two routing engines for redundancy. When one engine of a pair fails, the same part number is the like-for-like replacement.
What we list
The Juniper MX routing engines page holds every listing in the family. Part numbers listed today:
What owners do next
- Keep running it. A switch, router or firewall does not stop working on a maker's date. Hold a tested spare of the same part number so a failure is a swap and not an outage. See the Juniper MX routing engines listings.
- Buy more of what you already run. Matching hardware keeps one software image, one set of optics and one spares pool across the site.
- Sell what you retire. When the replacement goes in, send us the list and we will quote the pull.
Every unit we ship is tested in-house first and carries our warranty. If the part number you need is not listed, request a quote and we will check the warehouse.
