Juniper has announced the end of life of the EX3400 access switch. The notice is technical support bulletin TSB111598, "End of Life Announcement: EX3400", and Juniper's EX Series end of life page lists it with an announcement date of 10/30/2026 (the page reads "Last updated: 3 Nov 2026"). If you run EX3400 switches in an office or campus, these dates set your plans. Here they are, what each one means under Juniper's own policy, and what to do if you run EX3400 switches or plan to buy them.
The dates
| Milestone | EX3400 date |
|---|---|
| EOL announced | 10/30/2026 |
| Last order | 04/30/2027 |
| End of hardware failure analysis | 04/30/2028 |
| End of engineering | 04/30/2030 |
| Last software version | 26.2 |
| End of support | 04/30/2032 |
Juniper's table runs the columns in that order: "EOL Announced Last Order End of Hardware Failure Analysis End of Engineering Last Software Version End of Support".
What each milestone means
Juniper defines the terms in its end of life policy:
- Last order. "The last date on which purchase orders must be placed for the affected Juniper Product and for new support services contracts for such Product." After 04/30/2027 you cannot buy a new EX3400 from Juniper, or start a new support contract for one.
- End of hardware failure analysis. "The date after which Juniper is no longer committed to perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis of a Hardware failure as needed."
- End of engineering. "The date after which Juniper no longer committed to furnish engineering level support (i.e., bug fixes, further main releases, maintenance releases, service releases and/or patches)". For the EX3400 that is 04/30/2030, and the last software version is 26.2.
- End of support. "The last date to receive maintenance support (i.e., access to Juniper technical support engineers, access to software releases, Online tools, Hardware replacement." For the EX3400 that runs to 04/30/2032.
One condition sits under all of it: "A customer's right to support services of any kind is contingent upon that customer having a valid, unexpired support service contract purchased from Juniper Networks or a Juniper -authorized reseller or support services specialist."
Which part numbers are covered
The bulletin covers the common models, including "EX3400-24P, EX3400-24P-TAA, EX3400-24P-U, EX3400-24T", the DC and TAA versions, "EX3400-48P", "EX3400-48T, EX3400-48T-AFI", and the fan modules "EX3400-FAN-AFI, EX3400-FAN-AFO, EX3400-FAN-AFO2". If your switch label shows one of these, the dates above apply to it.
If you run EX3400 switches
Nothing stops working on any of these dates. What changes is what Juniper will do for you:
- Now to 04/30/2027. You can still buy new units and new support contracts from Juniper. If you want spares or a support contract on the same terms as today, this is the window.
- To 04/30/2030. Juniper still commits to engineering: bug fixes and maintenance releases. Software stops at release 26.2.
- To 04/30/2032. With a valid contract you keep access to support engineers, software downloads and hardware replacement.
The practical plan for most sites is to keep the switches in service on a release up to 26.2, hold a few spares of the exact models you run, and budget the replacement before 04/30/2030, when fixes stop. The fan modules are on the list as well, so if you keep spare fans for the AFI or AFO airflow, source them with the switches rather than after the last order date has passed.
The same page, other EX models
The EX3400 notice joins others Juniper posted this year on the same page. The EX4300-48MP and the EX4600 were both announced 06/29/2026, with a last order of 12/29/2026 and end of support on 12/29/2031. The EX2300 was announced 04/30/2026, with a last order of 09/30/2026 and end of support on 09/30/2031. If your access layer mixes these, the EX2300 last order date has already passed, and the EX4300-48MP and EX4600 last order date comes before the EX3400's. We covered the EX4600 end of life and the EX2300 end of life in earlier posts.
Buying EX3400 now
Whether you need matching spares while you plan or switches for a new closet, match the exact model, power option and airflow (the AFI and AFO versions in the list above) to what is already in the rack.
We have the EX3400-24P, EX3400-24T, EX3400-48P and EX3400-48T in stock, with the rest of the family on the EX3400 shelf and every EX switch under Juniper EX. Buyers asked us for the EX3400-24P and EX3400-24T this month.
Our read of the market this week: for the EX3400-24P and EX3400-48P, new listings are almost as common as used ones, so new spares are still easy to find, and asking prices for new EX3400-48T units dipped slightly between our reads of late October and this week. To line up spares before the last order date, ask for a quote. For how the EX3400 compares with Juniper's other EX access and aggregation switches, see our EX switch guide, and the Juniper guide for the whole line.
