This guide covers the Brocade parts that sit outside the ICX, VDX and MLXe lines: the 6510 and 6520 SAN switches, the FastIron SX chassis modules and power supplies, and the optics that Brocade, Ruckus and Foundry sold for their switches and routers. Each part number here fits a particular host, and the maker documents say which. Every figure comes from Brocade, Broadcom, Extreme and RUCKUS end of life notices, data sheets and guides, listed under Sources.
The short answer
For Fibre Channel, the Brocade 6510 has 24 ports and the Brocade 6520 96, both at 16G; check the support dates before buying either. For a FastIron SX 800 or SX 1600 chassis, buy modules of one generation. For optics, start from the host: the maker lists which optic each switch, router or module takes.
Brocade 6510 and 6520 SAN switches
| Model | Ports | Last order or ship | End of support | Named to follow |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BR-6510-24-16G-R | 24, 16Gb SWL SFPs | Last time order April 17, 2020 | June 17, 2025 | Brocade G620 |
| BR-6520-96-16G-R | 96, 16G SWL SFP | Last customer ship September 21, 2022 | September 21, 2027 | Brocade G630 or G730 |
The BR-6510-24-16G-R is the Brocade 6510 with 24 ports, 16Gb SWL SFPs, AC power and port side exhaust airflow. Its last time order was April 17, 2020 and its last customer ship June 17, 2020, and Brocade names the G620, as the BR-G620-24-16G-R or BR-G620-24-32G-R, to follow. The XBR-R000291 is the fixed rack mount kit for the 6510 and 6505. The BR-6520-96-16G-R is the Brocade 6520 with 96 16G ports, SWL SFPs, AC power, the enterprise bundle and port exhaust; Brocade names the G630 (BR-G630-96-32G-R-1) or a G730 48 port base with POD licenses to follow.
For Fibre Channel optics, the 57-0000089-01 is Brocade's 16G Fibre Channel SFP+ long wavelength optic for 10 km, and the 57-1000027-02 the 8G Fibre Channel SFP+ long wavelength optic for 10 km, both in Broadcom's transceiver support matrix.
FastIron SX modules
The FastIron SX 800 and SX 1600 chassis take interface modules in three generations, and Brocade warns of packet loss when generations are mixed in one chassis.
- SX-FI-24GPP: third generation, 24 10/100/1000 ports with PoE/PoE+, MACsec and EEE.
- SX-FI-8XG: third generation, 8 SFP+ 10 GbE ports with MACsec.
- SX-FI-24HF: third generation.
- SX-FI62XG and SX-FI2XGMR6: second generation; the SX-FI62XG has 2 XFP 10 GbE ports.
- SX-FI2XGMR4: first generation.
- SX-FI424C: first generation, 24 10/100/1000 copper ports.
- SX-FI424HF: 24 100/1000 Mbps combo fiber Ethernet ports.
FastIron and Foundry power supplies
The SX-ACPWR-SYS is the 1200 W system AC supply for the FastIron SX 800 and SX 1600. It takes 1428 W of input for its 1200 W output, at 100 to 120 VAC and 14.3 A or 200 to 240 VAC and 7.2 A, and gives off up to 4874 BTU/hr; the DC version is the SX-DCPWR-SYS. The SX-ACPWR-POE powers PoE on the SX 800 and SX 1600 PoE chassis, and from release 07.2.00 it runs at 52 or 54 volts for PoE+. The RPS-FGS is an AC supply for the FastIron GS with 600 watts of total output, rated 100 to 240 VAC at 50/60 Hz, with an MTBF of 346,230 hours.
Optics and what they fit
| Optic | Type | Reach | Listed for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10G-SFPP-SR | 10 Gbps SR SFP+ | Not stated | All FastIron devices |
| 40G-QSFP-LR4 | 40 GbE QSFP+ LR4 | 10 km | MLX 4 port 40 GbE module, VDX switches |
| 10G-XFP-LR | XFP, 1310 nm, single-mode | 10 km | CES 2000 and CER 2000 XFP ports |
| E1MG-LX | 1000Base-LX SFP, single-mode, LC | Not stated | CES 2000 and CER 2000 SFP ports |
| E1MG-LX-OM | 1000BASE-LX SFP, 1310 nm, LC | 550 m to 10 km | Not stated |
Ruckus lists the 10G-SFPP-SR as supported on all FastIron devices, with digital optical monitoring; the 10G-SFPP-SR-8 is an 8 pack of it (part number 57-0000075-01), and its sister 10G-SFPP-USR reaches 100 m over multimode fiber. The 40G-QSFP-LR4 is part number 57-1000263-01, and its sister 40G-QSFP-SR4 reaches 100 m. The 10G-XFP-LR has two sisters: the 10G-XFP-ER at 1550 nm for 40 km, and the 10G-XFP-SR at 850 nm for 300 m over multimode. The E1MG-LX-OM is the E1MG-LX with optical monitoring, and the E1MG-SX is the multimode 1000Base-SX version.
What to check before you buy
- On a SAN switch, the support date and the model Brocade names to follow it.
- On a FastIron SX chassis, the generation of every module.
- On a FastIron SX power supply, SYS for system power or POE for PoE power.
- On an optic, the host the maker lists it for, the fiber type and the reach.
Where to look
Each family has its own page listing what is in stock: Brocade SAN switches and the Brocade 6510 and 6520, FastIron SX modules, Foundry power supplies, Brocade transceivers, Foundry transceivers and Brocade load balancers. Pages in stock today include the SX-FI-24GPP, the SX-FI-8XG, the SX-ACPWR-SYS, the 10G-SFPP-SR and the 10G-XFP-LR. For the whole maker, read the Brocade and Ruckus guide. Request a quote for a part that is not listed, or sell the parts you retire.
