Brocade and Ruckus Hardware Guide: ICX, VDX and MLXe

Updated

Brocade's campus switch line, ICX, is sold under the Ruckus name today, so one family appears in listings under both names. Brocade's VDX data center switches, its MLXe routers and its Fibre Channel SAN switches keep the Brocade name. This guide collects what Townsend knows about the families we list: the models, the maker's end-of-sale dates and how to read an ICX part number. Dates come from Ruckus and Brocade notices, which the articles linked here name.

The shelves below go to what is in stock. For a part that is not shown, request a quote and a person checks the warehouse.

ICX campus and access switches

The ICX 7150 is the entry model, a 24 or 48 port access switch with PoE options. Ruckus ICX 7150 vs ICX 7250 explains the uplink code at the end of its part number (-2X10G, -4X10GR and the rest) and when to move up to the ICX 7250. The larger families have shelves of their own: ICX 7250, ICX 7450, ICX 7550, ICX 7650, ICX 7750, ICX 7850 and ICX 8200. The older ICX 6450, 6610 and 6650 have one too.

Dates to know:

  • ICX 7150 (24, 24P, 48, 48P, 48PF): sale ended March 10, 2025.
  • ICX 7150 (C12P, C10ZP, 48ZP): sale ended January 15, 2026. See Ruckus ICX 7150 End of Sale.
  • ICX 7650-48ZP: sale ended December 24, 2024.

VDX and MLXe

The VDX 6740, 6740T and 6940 are Brocade's data center switches, and the MLXe is its router line, with line cards and management modules sold as separate parts: the MLXe 10GbE modules, 100GbE modules and management modules. License Options for the Brocade 6740T Switch explains how that switch adds ports by licence. The shelves are the VDX switches and the MLXe family.

Dates to know:

  • VDX 6740 and 6740T: sale ended January 31, 2023, support to January 31, 2028.
  • VDX 6940: sale ended February 1, 2022, support to February 1, 2027.
  • MLXe, including line cards, chassis and management modules: sale ended July 31, 2022, support to July 31, 2027.

Brocade SAN switches

Brocade's Fibre Channel switches have a shelf of their own, the SAN switches. The Brocade 6510 ended sale on April 17, 2020 and its support ended on June 17, 2025. The Brocade 6520 has support to September 21, 2027.

After end of sale

An end-of-sale date closes the maker's order book and does not stop a switch working. What ends is the maker's side: new software fixes, support cases and replacement under a maker contract. For the other makers we list, see the guides for Juniper, Arista and Cisco. To sell ICX, VDX or MLXe gear you are retiring, send us the list.
