Cisco stopped taking orders for the ASR 1001-X and ASR 1002-X on August 1, 2022. The last date of support is July 31, 2027. Both routers are still widely deployed at the WAN edge, so the question for most owners is not whether the box still works. It is how long the maker stands behind it, and what to hold on the shelf until then.
The ASR 1004 chassis is further along. Cisco ended its sale on April 29, 2020 and its support on April 30, 2025.

What the dates mean
Cisco runs two clocks on every product. End of sale is the last day Cisco takes an order for it. The last date of support is the last day Cisco's support center takes a case and the last day a Cisco service contract covers the hardware. After that date the hardware keeps forwarding packets and the owner carries the risk: no new software fixes and no replacement from the maker.
The replacement the maker names
Cisco's notice names the Catalyst 8500 line as the replacement: C8500L-8S4X (1001-X); C8500-12X or C8500L-8S4X (1002-X). For the ASR 1004 the notice names the ASR1002-HX, ASR1006-X.
