Juniper Hardware Guide: MX, EX, QFX, SRX and ACX
Updated
Juniper makes routers, campus and data center switches, and firewalls, and its part numbers carry more information than they first show. This guide collects what Townsend knows about the Juniper families we list: what each one is for, where Juniper's end-of-life dates stand, and how to read a part number before you order. Dates and specifications come from Juniper's notices and documents, which the articles linked here name.
The shelves below go to the families we have in stock. For a part that is not shown, request a quote and a person checks the warehouse.

Routers: MX and ACX
The MX Series is Juniper's family of universal edge routers. At the compact end sit the fixed 1U MX204 and the modular 2U MX304, compared in Juniper MX204 vs MX304. The MX240, MX480 and MX960 chassis take line cards, routing engines and switch control boards as separate parts, so a listing for one of those parts needs the chassis it fits. The ACX Series covers access and metro routing, including the ACX7100 and the ACX5448.
Shelves: MX204, MX304, MX480, MX line cards, MX routing engines and ACX.
Dates to know:
- MX204 (MX204-HW-BASE): last order June 15, 2027, support to June 30, 2032. See Juniper MX204 End of Life.

Switches: EX and QFX
The EX Series covers campus, access and aggregation switching, from the compact EX2300 and the EX4300 to the EX4600 and the EX4650. The QFX Series is built for data center racks and includes the QFX5100, the QFX5120 and the QFX5200. To choose between two EX models, read Juniper EX4300 vs EX4600.

Security: SRX
The SRX Series is Juniper's firewall line. The SRX1500, the SRX345, the SRX4600 and the SRX3000 and SRX5000 chassis each have a shelf of their own. Juniper ended sale of the SRX1500 on April 15, 2026, and its support runs to April 15, 2031.
Reading a Juniper part number
The ending on many Juniper switch and router numbers names the airflow. AFO takes air in through the front panel, the side with the ports, and exhausts it at the rear. AFI does the reverse. Every fan and power supply in a chassis must carry the same label. Airflow suffixes explained sets Juniper's letters beside Arista's -F and -R, and the Arista guide covers the Arista side.
A DC in a part number marks a DC-powered build, so confirm the power input on the product page before you order.
After end of sale
An end-of-sale date closes Juniper's order book and does not stop a router or a switch working. What ends is the maker's side: new software fixes, support cases and replacement under a maker contract. Matching hardware keeps one software image, one set of optics and one spares pool, which is why fleets keep buying the part they already run. The same holds for Arista, Brocade and Ruckus and Cisco gear. If you are the one retiring hardware, send us the list.
